Monolith

This piece continues Hala Salem’s exploration of form, language, and cultural memory. Built from black and white marble with bands of brass, the monolith features engraved quotes, from Fairuz’s lyrics to Amin Rihani’s words, connecting material with message.

It reflects on themes of dignity, identity, and presence through minimal geometry and strong contrasts.
Installed in 2025, it follows her earlier work Presence of Absence, and builds on the same intention: using solid forms to hold meaning in space.
